Whoa!! 2020 is here. Another fresh year to set goals and overrated & never followed resolutions. People would search online, trying to find what’s the new trends in this new year which would make 2020 happy. We cannot jot down all that’s would be new in the year 2020. However, we can tell you what to expect from the field of IoT which would make this year a happy new year indeed. So listen up, It’s New, It’s Happy, It’s Affordable IoT: 2020.
Internet of things and Us
So, what is Internet of things and why are we concerned about it? We have two kinds of answer to this question:
- First, the google answer, “the interconnection via the Internet of computing devices embedded in everyday objects, enabling them to send and receive data.”
- Second, SenseNxt answer, anything that has electrical pulse flowing through it is capable of sending data. That is the Internet of thing in simple language.
- Third, how does IoT concerns us? SenseNxt works in the field of IoT, GPS trackers being its dominant product for now.
Why this article?
So, now let’s get to the point; the reason why this article is being written. It’s there in the title, affordable IoT.
The era of smart devices and the internet of things in India started a decade late. The year 2019 was predicted to be the year of IoT as per many statistics and articles. The number of IoT active IoT devices did increase by the end of the year 2019. But, as predicted by many articles last year, it didn’t become that of a trend.
According to a study published by NASSCOM, IoT market in India is expected to grow significantly, with the number of connected devices to grow ~32 * 1.9 billion and the revenue expected to grow ~7x to USD 9 billion by 2020.
Although the awareness about IoT devices penetrated deep even in small towns and villages in our country, prices of the devices remained a major constraint for many devices in becoming a trend till mid of 2019. As we moved towards the end of the year, the prices of IoT devices started to go down gradually. Because of this change in the prices, the number of active IoT devices increased by a significant number. Now the question is why did the prices go down? How did it become affordable?
Costly to Affordable
How did the prices devices go down?
It’s the cost of production which went down. The gradual increase in the demand for IoT devices led to mass production. I’m sure smart minds have worked hard to bring the cost down. But whatever be the reason for becoming cost-efficient, IoT devices are getting affordable by time.
There are many IoT devices in the market for a while but was not popular among the masses. And this was not because people weren’t aware of them. They were, but their pockets didn’t allow them. But when the same item enters in purchasing power, it would gain popularity among the masses, become a trend.
IoT devices with a potential of being in trend in 2020
Making a list of affordable IoT devices which can become a trend in 2020 wouldn’t be that hard. By looking at the price drop in the last few sales and looking them in use around us, we have made a list of IoT devices which we think have the potential of becoming not just a trend but a basic necessity like a television. Smart Lights, Smart Speakers, Smart doorbells, Smart locks, Smart switches, Smart plugs, Smart bands, Smart TV, GPS devices, smart security cameras, Smart fitness gears, smart id cards, etc.
